Two more powerful cases that supports the view that there is an afterlife

I recently discovered two powerful cases providing further scientific evidence for near death experiences/out of body experiences. One of them reported by Dr. Norma Bowe from Kean University. The patient suffered an extreme case of OCD, which led her to having a counting problem. What is remarkable about this case is she saw a 12 digit serial number where the only way to see the serial number would be if you had a ladder in order to see it from a standing position .

Ad Hoc Excuse?

I seen today a older forum post by a skeptic who says that its an ad hoc excuse to say that patients who have had a out of body experience would not be able to see the signs from near the ceiling because there attention would be on their body and the people around them. He also says that if we don't get the results we want (else believers) from the aware study we will just make up endless ad hoc excuses. However, me along with others see it as a legitimate problem one that has been taken into account.

An honest Atheist/Materialist when looking at the evidence for Near Death Experiences and Out of Body Experiences/Reincarnation evidence

An open minded skeptic who admits there is compelling evidence from nde/obe and reincarnation evidence that probably points towards an afterlife.

Also i like to discuss too i recent video i listened too a closer to truth video where Robert Lawrence Kuhn interview scientist Robert Parker. Robert says a number of things that i like to discuss here.

He mentions first, " People want to believe and it's easy to fool them"

This is a good statement but one where i would say Robert is using an argument such as for example well kids want to believe santa claus really exists but of course he doesn't. The problem is this argument sounds very good at first but once you dissect it you find that it's very weak in nature. The reason why people believe in an afterlife it's not because simply they want it too be so. Of course, i can't say that for everyone but at least some people hold to the view that an afterlife is probably true based on their research and assessment of the evidence.


Next he says, "They get debunked over and over again the same claims"

Just because they get debunked doesn't mean the debunker himself is making an fair assessment of what is really going on. Yes sometimes the debunker does but other times not.

He says, "There's are a hint of an afterlife", you are not going to be reunited with your loved ones".

This is where Robert should first do some research into psychical research and parapsychology on this own then come back and see if his view changes any.


"Nothing is ever verifiable"

WRONG, do some research into psychical research and you will soon find out their is a ton of verifiable information.

"It's manipulation"

True that religions have manipulated people to follow a certain set of rules, every religion has a different set of rules. This of course, makes it seem obvious that any afterlife view is sure manipulation.

ScienceDaily (Sep. 10, 2008) — The University of Southampton is launching the world's largest-ever study of near-death experiences this week.

The AWARE (AWAreness during REsuscitation) study is to be launched by the Human Consciousness Project of the University of Southampton - an international collaboration of scientists and physicians who have joined forces to study the human brain, consciousness and clinical death.

The study is led by Dr Sam Parnia, an expert in the field of consciousness during clinical death, together with Dr Peter Fenwick and Professors Stephen Holgate and Robert Peveler of the University of Southampton. Following a successful 18-month pilot phase at selected hospitals in the UK, the study is now being expanded to include other centres within the UK, mainland Europe and North America.

"Contrary to popular perception," Dr Parnia explains, "death is not a specific moment. It is a process that begins when the heart stops beating, the lungs stop working and the brain ceases functioning - a medical condition termed cardiac arrest, which from a biological viewpoint is synonymous with clinical death.

"During a cardiac arrest, all three criteria of death are present. There then follows a period of time, which may last from a few seconds to an hour or more, in which emergency medical efforts may succeed in restarting the heart and reversing the dying process. What people experience during this period of cardiac arrest provides a unique window of understanding into what we are all likely to experience during the dying process."

A number of recent scientific studies carried out by independent researchers have demonstrated that 10-20 per cent of people who go through cardiac arrest and clinical death report lucid, well structured thought processes, reasoning, memories and sometimes detailed recall of events during their encounter with death.

During the AWARE study, doctors will use sophisticated technology to study the brain and consciousness during cardiac arrest. At the same time, they will test the validity of out of body experiences and claims of being able to 'see' and 'hear' during cardiac arrest.

The AWARE study will be complemented by the BRAIN-1 (Brain Resuscitation Advancement International Network - 1) study, in which the research team will conduct a variety of physiological tests in cardiac arrest patients, as well as cerebral monitoring techniques that aim to identify methods to improve the medical and psychological care of patients who have undergone cardiac arrest.

Dr Parnia will formally announce the launch of the AWARE study at an international symposium to be held at the United Nations on September 11.

Why I Think Near Death Experiences Provide Evidence For An Afterlife

Another is the fact that a lot of near death experiences were flatlined. This shows that their was very little brain activity going on.

Another Interesting Piece of evidence in support of near death experiences

Another piece of evidence in support that they are not brain based. Some individuals have described in amazing detail, facts about their physical surroundings that they should not have been able to know. Some have described details of medical procedures performed on them. Some have related memories of conversations that others had during their medical emergencies or even described the jewelry and clothing worn from those around them.

Some accounts have given verified details about what happened outside the immediate room, down the hallway, or even miles away. The amount of verification is sometimes staggering. People blind from birth have correctly visual details of things around them and outside their presence. Many of these near-death details were of events occurring when the individual had no heartbeat or brain wave activity, as indicated by ''flat EKG and EEG readings, sometimes over lengthy periods of time.

Atheist philosopher Antony Flew attests that NDE's certainly constitute impressive evidence of the possibility of the occurence of human consciousness independent of any occurences in the human brain. This evidence equally certainly weakens if does not completely refute my argument against doctrines of a future life''.

Near Death Experience 2 Common Objections Rebutted

It is sometimes claimed that a drug called Ketamine can produce all features of the near death experience.

Here's my Rebuttal

There is some big differences between ketamine and near death experiences such as you need lots of brain activity for ketamine to work while people with very little still have near death experiences some report accurate information and see things while outside their body some even from very far distances away.

Another difference is too ketamine experiences are often frightening. Unlike the vast majority of near death experiences.

DMT does not account for the Veridical Elements of the NDE, nor the amazing structure of many NDEs, accourding to the book DMT: The Spiritual Molecule, it may act as an initial NDE trigger, but cannot make up for the entire experience, Veridical Elements and all, in addition to the pesky little fact that within 4 to 20 seconds of cardiac arrest, the brain waves go flat, and even if they were sufficient (which they are not), the brain cannot produce images in this state, and even if it could, you couldn't remember them.

Another interesting out of body perception case

Here's another interesting case I got this from the book called The Psychic Casebook- Real Encounters With The Paranormal By Craig Hamilton Parker I thought it was important to share it all with you here.




It's about a woman named Elizabeth Hyde after a severe asthma attack she was rushed to the hospital.

I vaguely recall waking in an oxygen tent and a lot of fuss going on around me. I don't know at what point I drifted out of my body, but I do know know that my heart stopped and I was rushed to the Resuscitation Ward. I could see myself attached to the ventilator with lots of wires connected to me. I could see a doctor, two nurses and bizaree sight of a man dresses in a bow tie and full evening suit.

Elizabeth then went into cardiac arrest, but witnesses the unfolding scene from outside her body.

I saw them all trying to restart my heart. I was in pain and felt no difficulty with my breathing. I was an onlooker, so to speak, watching myself in the hospital bed.

We had no telephone at home and I saw the police bring my husband to the hospital. Is there any hope? I heard him say. 'very little,' replied the man in the evening suit. That was the only moment I felt unhappy.

I felt myself falling down a tunnel and saw my life flash before me like a rapid series of camera pictures. Suddenly I was standing and feeling wonderful with a sense of lightness and happiness, and I knew that I was surrounded by a great love. Added to this was a feeling of tranquillity. I felt so well it was wonderful!

I then found myself standing to one side of a small arched bridge. There were people singing, not hymns but a lovely song of joy. There were colours such as I have never seen. I wanted to join them, but thoughts of my husband stopped me. There were also things that I still wanted to do in life., such as have a baby- but it was so very, very tempting to cross.

Standing on the bridge was a Jewish man holding a cross. He 'spoke' to me telepathically and asked, 'Are you ready to cross?'. I recall saying, 'No, No, No!' and then immediately returned to my body. I could now hear conversations going on around me in hte hospital. She slipping away,' they said. But I knew that I would live and started fighting the ventilator to prove that I could breathe by myself. 'Why can't these people see I'm not going to die>'

After four days Elizabeth was detached from the ventilator, transferred to a recovery ward and gradually got well.

The man who previously wore the evening suit when I was in a coma was now in a doctor's white coat as he walked into the ward. I asked the nurse about him. 'He's the surgeon who performed a tracheotomy operation on you to try and save your life,' said the nurse. ' I Know.' I replied, ' but why was he wearing a bow tie and evening suit?' The nurse was dumbstruck and then explained that they had to call him from a very dinner engagement!

I did have a child- a son, Simon, who is now 27. The previous year I had lost a baby, but I know he lives on and one day I will see him. I know I am lucky to have had such a wonderful experience.

Simon describes the impact Elizabeth's experience has had on the family:

Perhaps psychic gifts run in our family. Mum and I will try to call each other at exactly the same time. I know that Mum's experience helped her when the Dad died., as she is now convinced that there's an afterlife. As for me, I used to regularly see his spirit walk in my room when I was a little boy.

Skeptics will of course say that it is all an hallunication, but how could she have possibly have known that her surgeon was wearing a bow tie and evening suit? She was in a coma and having a tracheotomy performed. Elizabeth also knew that is was the police that brought her husband to the hospital, as she overheard the conversation, and also knew the doctor and two nurses tried to resuscitate her heart.

Why Rem Intrusion study do not explain near death experiences

During the past few years the worldwide press has seen a virtual explosion of headlines claiming that a condition called “REM intrusion” explains near-death experiences. The media’s excitement makes it sound like a final solution. However, the people who really know NDEs say, “Not so fast.”

REM intrusion is a condition that occurs when some characteristics of the common REM sleep state—such as rapid eye movement, low muscle tone, and dreaming—activate during wakefulness. Without question, there are marked similarities between REM intrusion and NDEs, just as there are similarities with other much-hyped earlier comparisons such as temporal lobe epilepsy, oxygen deprivation, and the effects of some drugs. However, once again, what the world’s media overlooked in presenting the REM findings are their marked differences.

* NDE research years ago firmly established clear distinctions between NDEs and hallucinations; NDErs who had also experienced REM intrusion were not asked to compare the two.
* REM intrusion does not explain key NDE elements such as veridical perception, lasting aftereffects, and visual perception in the blind
* REM intrusion experiencers immediately recognize that their visual and auditory experiences are not reality-based, whereas NDErs describe theirs as “realer than real.”
* Although the published study concludes that a higher rate of REM intrusion predisposes a person to NDEs, the NDErs weren’t asked when the intrusions occurred; so, it is just as likely that they occur as a result of an NDE. Further, 40% of the NDErs said they had never had REM intrusions at all.

A Typical Near Death Experience

Here is what a typical Near Death Experience and how many people who experience one there lives change.

We have all read of Near Death Experiences, but to go through one yourself can be very meaningful. All impressions we receive on a daily basis will be shaped and conditioned by the Bodily container that holds our true inner self, where these experiences are understood and stored. Our upbringing and religion can also impede our understating of these important events, which should act as landmarks in our spiritual life.This adverse mental conditioning can also brought about by education, some religionists and psychologists are in favour of an afterlife, and many are not. But my own experience was that I was in hospital and not expected to live,I was lapsing in and out of consciousness, when in the small hours, I could see from my small room through the partially open door, a party of about 5 spirit people standing in the corridor watching the door to the next room, where a man was very ill. I heard the party of people say to a spirit lady in an off white suit, grey hair and a string of pearls who seemed to be in charge, that a sick man did not want to come with them, and she would have to speak to him, intuition said she was his mother.The mans voice from the room was raised as he said, “go away, I am not coming with you, leave me alone,” and this went on for some while as the party standing outside got more anxious about how long it was all taking. I looked at the clock and it was ten to four in the morning when it all went quiet, and the lady and the little group left with the confused man from the next room.

At breakfast I joked with the nurse that the man in the next room had had nocturnal visitors who had come to help him away, her reply was that she was there as one of the night staff and no-one had died during the night., I insisted he had died at ten to four in the morning.This nurse came back white faced some short time after and said; “how did you know he died at 4 in the morning, I was on duty and even I did not know until I checked the night book “?I then told her in detail how the party of people outside had kept me awake debating who would go to fetch him as it was his time, and they decided on the grey haired woman to persuade him.The nurse was in some shock as she had told the other night staff of my earlier comments, which seemed to fit the known facts, this meant that over my stay in hospital I was visited by the nursing staff, caterers, doctors and admin, all wanting me to see what I could see for them, most took what I said well, a couple were scared, and a doctor was quite hostile to what she said was pandering to superstition.A philosopher once said three things in life are guaranteed,“birth, taxes and death “ we have so much knowledge about the first two,but death is for many families a forbidden topic.These words of Newman sum it up nicely.“and with the morn these angel faces smile,which I have loved long since and lost, a while.
